Responsibilities

General Description:

The Cook is primarily responsible for preparing and serving of all meals to
residents and assist with light administrative tasks.

 

Essential Functions:

 

General:

 

  • Comprehend and document diets as prescribed by the physician and as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Interpret, understand and prepare menus and recipes.
  • Prepare a variety of food as specified by menu.
  • Prepare food that is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Use standard recipes, using substitutes only with consent of the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Control portions to eliminate waste and leftovers.
  • Label, date, and store leftovers in refrigerator.
  • Instruct and supervise Dietary Aides involved in preparation of meals.
  • Insure that all meals are served at scheduled times.
  • Serve hot food and assist in serving cold food.
  • Read and understand directions on chemicals used in cleaning kitchen equipment, etc.
  • May place routine weekly food orders.
  • In absence of supervisor, be responsible for the general operation of the dietary department.
  • Regular, punctual attendance required.
  • Some driving required.

Additional Functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Must have Food Handlers Permit/Certification, where      required.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in an institutional      cooking facility.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Arithmetic ability required.
  • Ability to prepare meals and serve them in an      attractive and appealing manner.
  • Ability to work under extreme temperature conditions      (both hot and cold).
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks during shift of      duty requiring stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds safely with assistance.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in the state in which      employed.
  • Have an excellent driving record.
  • Have a commitment to the purpose, objectives and goals      of the Agency.
