  • Overview

    The primary duty of the Case Worker for Voluntary Infant Placement and International Adoption is to provide support and case management services to adoptive families, including, but not limited to completing a home study, adoption preparation, placement, and post placement process and documentation as required by the primary provider, the Central Authority of the child’s country of origin, Agency and licensing standards, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Time will be divided between domestic infant adoption program (VIP) and International Adoption.


    Essential Duties  

    • Assess and evaluate the appropriateness of placement with prospective adoptive parents based on state, international (country), and agency guidelines; complete the intake process from point of contact to placement and post placement

    • Utilize assessment tools and skills to determine behavioral, emotional, mental, and social issues within an adoptive family and refer to appropriate resources

    • Oversee placement of child in the adoptive home and begin legalization process for domestic adoption, including preparation of necessary documents and provide family with referral to local resources, if needed

    • Complete home visits meeting the domestic adoption requirements for both the home study and post placement reports

    • Be prepared to travel across the state on very short notice to complete an emergency domestic adoption placement

    • Work with birthmothers/birthparents throughout the pregnancy, providing support, information and counsel

    • Collaborate with supervisor on our Post Adoption Support Services, assisting with post adoption searches, reunions and providing necessary records to past clients

    • Complete and submit home study reports and progress reports to supervisor for domestic adoption and to the international agency and overseas government requirements in a timely manner

    • Coordinate services and support between child, prospective and adoptive parents, school, and other professional service providers

    • Collaborate with supervisor on community outreach and marketing both programs

    • Complete and submit a timely and accurate record of billing for services provided

    • Coordinate and facilitate trainings for pre-adoptive families upon request

    • Report any serious or significant incidents to the appropriate staff in a timely manner

    • Other duties and special projects as assigned

    • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with children, prospective and adoptive families, management, staff, and other professional service providers

    • Work closely with management and staff to ensure operations are effectively and efficiently supporting the needs of the children, parents, and families

    • Work as a team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practices


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Services, Human Services, or closely related field
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • Must be able to travel throughout the state of Texas
    • Relevant experience
    • Knowledge of psychological theory, methods, and ethics
    • Ability to establish a positive rapport, trust, and ethical boundaries with children, parents, and families
    • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgement when making decisions
    • Demonstrated ability to apply empathy when dealing with difficult and sensitive situations
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; take initiative and work with limited supervision
    • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to work diverse groups of people
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to properly and accurately document case files/records
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage a heavy caseload, meet deadlines, and prioritize competing requests/tasks
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Outlook

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Social Services, Human Services, or closely related field
    • Experience with inter-country adoption
    • 1 year of experience writing home study and post placement/post adoption reports
    • LMSW


    Physical Demands & Work Conditions

    • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time
    • Position has constant exposure to infants/children
    • Position requires travel throughout the state of Texas
    • Lift, push, pull, move up to 50 lbs.
