  • Overview

    The primary role of the Family Services Team Lead is to supervise and provide support, guidance, and training to Family Services Workers, and manage a modified caseload in accordance to Agency and licensing standards, and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.     


    Essential Duties

    • Provide all Family Services Workers staff with ongoing support, coaching, and training to ensure they are meeting performance goals and the needs of the children, parents, and families
    • Ensure quarterly review of service/treatment plans for Level of Care (LOC) Moderate, Specialized and Intense foster care children
    • Ensure bi-annual review of service/treatment plans for LOC Basic foster care children
    • Assist with the completion of the intake process from point of contact to placement and post-placement; complete the recruitment and intake/eligibility process, assessment, counseling, verification, approval, placement, and referral services
    • Review case files and notes to ensure they are accurate and completed in a timely manner and meet Agency standards, state licensing standards, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
    • Provide advanced stabilization services (crisis intervention) for foster children, parents, and their families; support and coach staff on how to effectively manage a crisis situation
    • Assist with child placement and post-placement services, which may include identifying and contacting the appropriate foster parent and coordinating arrangements between the placement agency and the foster home
    • Establish and ensure staff follows a formal process for case reviews and informal transfer between agencies and referral sources that appropriately meet the needs of the child, parent, and/or family
    • Respond to escalated situations and serious incidents in a timely manner and properly document the incident and outcome
    • Respond to foster care children, parents, and family needs and concerns with compassion and empathy in a timely manner
    • Manage a modified caseload by providing foster children, parents, and families with case management and direct services to meet established goals, provide advocacy on behalf on the child, parents, and families with the courts, police, school, and other medical and mental health providers
    • Provide emergency and on-call services when needed
    • Other duties and special projects as assigned

    Staff Management and Development

    • Provide ongoing support and coaching to all direct report staff to ensure the department is operating effectively and efficiently in accordance to established goals and objectives and program services are being delivered in manner that meets the needs of the foster care children, parents, and their families
    • Interview, hire, and train new staff and develop and implement ongoing staff development trainings
    • Coach and support staff to ensure they have the necessary tools and resources to optimize performance and ensure established project goals and deliverables are achieved on time and within budget
    • Regularly review employee performance and provide supportive feedback
    • Conduct 90-day and annual evaluations per established completion date

    Working Relationships

    • Work closely with other members of management, staff, and service providers and professionals to ensure foster care children, parents, and families are receiving quality and timely services
    • Develop and maintain positive and strong working relationships with the Foster Care and Adoption teams and foster care parents and families, while maintaining professional and ethical boundaries at all times
    • Work as a team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practices.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field
    • Child Placement Management Staff (CPMS)
    • 3 years relevant experience in foster care, child welfare, or adoption
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • Knowledge of psychological theory, methods, and ethics
    • Ability to establish rapport, trust, and ethical boundaries with service population
    • Strong writing skills with the ability to properly and accurately document foster care services and progress
    • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimum supervision
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize competing tasks
    • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to apply compassion and empathy, while dealing with stressful and difficult situations
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field
    • LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, or LPC
    • 5 years relevant experience in foster care, child welfare, or adoption
    • 1 year supervisory or management experience
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish based on service area and service population)


    Physical Demands & Work Conditions

    • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time
    • Position works with children and families and has constant exposure to children
    • Lift, push, pull, move up to 50 lbs.
