  • Overview

    The Center Floater is responsible for supporting the Center Operations Director with daily program needs in the implementation and coordination of all Head Start functions both inside and outside of the classroom.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties  

    • Advocate for young children and their families
    • Identify report and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying immediate supervisor and appropriate agency
    • Assist in the implementation of weekly lesson plans
    • Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, teacher assistant, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities
    • Assist the teacher in a Head Start preschool setting, which provides a comprehensive program to meet educational, emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs of children
    • Ensure all children are being supervised at all times while indoors and outdoors
    • Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well- being and safety of all the children in care
    • Assist with all child assessments and screenings
    • Attend workshops, conferences and all in-service trainings
    • Participate in professional development activities
    • Maintain training hours and documentation as required
    • Assist in maintaining staff and child ratio for safety, guidance and discipline
    • Assist in collection and accurate documentation of monthly non-federal in-kind MATCH
    • Assist Center Operations Director with monthly center safety drills and checklists
    • Handle all children’s information with utmost confidentiality
    • Report suspected child abuse/neglect to immediate supervisor and appropriate agency
    • Abide by all Head Start and Upbring policies and procedures
    • Abide by DFPS and OHS regulations and standards
    • Assist with other job duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

    Working Relationships

    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with classroom teachers, administrative staff, children, and parents to ensure the children are receiving a quality learning experience.
    • Work closely with other classroom teachers to ensure program operations are supporting and meeting program goals and objectives and learning outcomes.
    • Work as part of the team and show professionalism at all times by modeling and demonstrating a positive attitude and positive working relationships, while maintaining strong ethical boundaries.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent
    • Enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field OR ability to enroll in a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential program within 30 days of start date, to be completed within two years
    • Ability to acquire and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aid within 90-days of employment
    • Must be able to serve and effectively communicate, to the extent feasible, with children and families with no or limited English proficiency
    • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build a positive rapport with children, parents/guardians, and team members
    • Strong computer skills; high proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally, interact with all levels of management in a clear and concise manner
    • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks, requests, and projects and meet deadlines
    • Strong written and verbal communication; able to produce quality well-written documents, reports, and correspondence
    • Ability to work independently and within a team with limited supervision; ability to take initiative
    • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
    • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification

    Physical Demands & Work Conditions

    • This position requires frequent standing, walking, and speaking for long periods of time
    • Position works in a facility with and around children on a regular basis
    • Lift, push, pull, move up to 25 lbs.

While performing this position the employee with or without reasonable accommodation should have the ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, speak, and hear with aid, see, read, reach with arms and hands, and use equipment that is essential to performing the job, such as a computer, copier, fax machine, telephone, and automobile, if applicable. This position will require bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching, standing and sitting for long periods of time, frequent walking, and the ability to carry, move, or lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance. This position will be subject to loud noise and working outdoors throughout the year.
