Overview

What You'll Do

The Philanthropic Advisor is responsible securing immediate and long-term financial support for the Organization by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding current and prospective individual donors to support the Organization’s fundraising goals, objectives, activities, and the Organization’s mission.

Responsibilities

Work Standards 

  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors from identification through engagement, solicitation, and stewardship; actively manage a portfolio of major giving donors and prospects
  • Acquire, renew, and upgrade donor annual and multi-year giving; meet minimum annual performance targets of prospect contacts; renew and grow annual giving and multi-year giving by building strong relationships with assigned portfolio
  • Regularly engage with discovery prospects with the goal of assessing their affinity and financial capacity for major donor potential; identify prospects and match the passions and philanthropic interests of assigned donors with the mission, program needs and goals, and Organization goals and objectives
  • Develop a cultivation strategy of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for each existing, new, and prospective major gift donor
  • Participate in special events with a focus on engaging major, existing, and prospective donors; assist in the production and execution of fundraising events for assigned geographic area
  • Record and track donor “moves” and significant activity using the Organization’s relational database system
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

  • Assist Chief of Community Engagement and  Vice President of Development Operations in cultivating, soliciting, and engaging existing and prospective donors

Building Relationships

  • Develop purposeful and meaningful recognition for each closed major gift that strengthens the relationship and brings about desired visibility for donors, when deemed appropriate
  • Research, schedule, and conduct donor visits to develop positive and purposeful relationships with planned givers, major donors, and existing and new prospects; track and evaluate philanthropic interests and assess prospects ability to support giving goals; make qualifying recommendations for potential major giving donors
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management and a variety of external stakeholders, including current and prospective donors, volunteers, leaders of local businesses, and leaders of philanthropic groups and church congregations
  • Work as team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the Organization and is consistent with Organization policies and practices. Network and always represent the Organization in a professional manner
  • Actively participate in exhibiting cultural awareness and sensitivity when interacting staff, and the community

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7 years of successful experience in major gift fundraising

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of successful experience in major gift fundraising
  • Proficiency with relational database Raiser’s Edge
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, solicit, and manage new prospects and existing donors; proven track record and history of cultivating, soliciting, and closing planned and major gifts
  • Proven experience with major and planned giving cultivation strategies
  • Demonstrated experience in developing in-depth cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and plans
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to reach common goals and objectives
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of major donors and how to deepen donor relationships and closing gifts
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound ethics and judgement based on available information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate in a persuasive manner
  • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate, interact, and work with diverse groups of people; ability to articulate Agency goals, objectives, and priorities and align them with donor values and interests
  • Goal oriented with the ability to work autonomously with a high degree of accountability to meet or exceed established goals
  • Strong presentation skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and advanced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • This position requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and using a computer for long periods of time
  • Position works in a facility with and around children on a regular basis
  • Lift, push, pull, move up to 75 lbs
