What You'll Do As A Maintenance Assistant

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Assistant is to ensure the proper upkeep of the Agency and/or facility by performing general maintenance and repairs to the building, grounds, and equipment. Additionally, the Maintenance Assistant may be required to handle janitorial duties as needed. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building maintenance duties such as painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical, HVAC, landscaping, etc.

  • Clean and maintain the interior/exterior of building or facility

  • Create, prioritize, manage, and complete work order requests

  • Receive and assemble merchandise, office furniture, wallboards, storage racks, etc.

  • Maintain and perform scheduled routine preventive maintenance on equipment and Agency vehicles

  • Perform partial maintenance after hours to prevent disruption of business activities or operation

  • Ensure the interior and exterior of the building and property is free of hazards

  • Respond to emergency calls after scheduled work hours as needed

  • Coordinate and assist with janitorial duties

  • Other duties and projects as assigned  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older per licensing requirement
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assigned tasks and unplanned requests during shift
  • Ability to handle emergencies with or without limited supervision
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to assemble using written instructions
  • Ability to see the differences in colors, shades, and brightness; ability to see objects in very bright or dim light
  • Working knowledge of building maintenance procedures and techniques
  • Ability to operate and handle machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for maintenance and repair

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (based on service populations and area)
  • 1-year prior maintenance and repair experience
  • Knowledge of reading blueprints

Physical Demands & Work Conditions
  • This position will require constant bending, kneeling, twisting, stretching, and reaching, climbing up and down ladders, frequent walking, occasional sitting, and standing for long periods of time 
  • Position works in a child facility and has constant exposure to children 
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking and time in units/cottages which are areas where children reside
  • Lift, push, pull, move up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to apply safety intervention with youth that could weigh over 100lbs.
