What You'll Do

The Internal Communications Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing internal communication strategies that foster engagement, reflect our organizational culture, and align with broader brand and strategic goals. Reporting to the Director of Public Relations and Communications, this role is part of the Brand Department and works closely with the People & Culture team, as well as the Marketing and Advocacy teams, to support talent acquisition, retention and staff engagement through proactive and transparent messaging. By optimizing the internal brand to mirror external brand efforts, the manager will help unify our voice and strengthen organizational identity. As a key member of the Communications team, this individual will drive storytelling that connects staff to our mission, values and vision of advancing child wellbeing. Ultimately, the role helps activate our internal audience as passionate brand ambassadors, living out what it means to be Warriors, Servants and Family. 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of PR & Communications to refine and scale Upbring’s internal communications strategy, ensuring it aligns with the organization’s external brand, culture, and strategic goals while balancing day-to-day communications with campaign-driven initiatives 
  • Collaborate across the Brand Department, including Marketing and Advocacy, and with the People & Culture Department to optimize internal communications that reflect organizational values, support recruitment and retention, and empower employees to serve as brand ambassadors 
  • Craft and publish compelling, audience-specific content across internal channels (e.g., intranet, email, newsletters, recognition platforms, employee review sites) using strong storytelling and brand-aligned messaging that reinforces Upbring’s mission and values 
  • Plan, develop, and execute a comprehensive annual and monthly internal communications calendar; manage and lead internal campaigns, such as the Upbring Update newsletter, staff challenges, and program spotlights, ensuring consistent tone, frequency, and visual identity 
  • Serve as a communications lead for high-priority initiatives, cross-functional collaborations, and sensitive internal messaging, helping teams navigate change and stay informed on programmatic and organizational developments 
  • Track engagement metrics and performance of internal communications campaigns; prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, identifying wins, gaps, and opportunities for growth and improvement 
  • Oversee the content and accuracy of internal platforms, such as the intranet and recognition tools, and partner with the Social Media Manager to manage presence on employee review sites (e.g., Indeed, Glassdoor), respond to comments, and support reputation management 
  • Guide the design and development of creative collateral—such as fliers, posters, FAQs, and digital assets—ensuring visual consistency and strategic messaging across all internal initiatives 
  • Create rigor around internal communication processes, calendars, and style guides; foster strong relationships across departments to ensure visibility, alignment, and trust in internal messaging 
  • Serve as the internal communications representative on cross-departmental projects and strategic teams; uphold Upbring’s messaging standards and mission-driven voice, and provide writing and ghostwriting support for senior leaders as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or closely related field 
  • Three (3) years’ experience in communications, media relations, strategic communications, journalism, or public relations showcasing a track record of leadership and impactful contributions 
  • Encouraging and inclusive attitude to other team members and colleagues with proven track record of fostering a culture of inclusivity, with demonstrated leadership in creating environments where diverse perspectives are valued and integrated. 
  • Ability to synthesize, prioritize and drive results with a strong sense of urgency with exceptional ability to not only synthesize and prioritize tasks but also to develop and execute strategic plans that drive measurable results, showcasing a strong sense of urgency and impact. 
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications and presentation skills
  • Extensive experience in project management, including managing multiple projects and tasks with frequently changing requirements and deadlines, showcasing a history of delivering projects on time and within budget 
  • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to work autonomously and in a team (group) environment and the ability to work and interact with diverse groups of people at all levels in the organization 
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook 
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, HTML, and graphic design, thorough understanding of search engines and SEO 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5)+ years post-graduation experience in communications, media relations, strategic communications, journalism, or public relations showcasing a track record of leadership and impactful contributions 
  • Certification in Communications related areas such as storytelling, internal communications, crisis communications, diversity and/or inclusion, or other related certifications, underscoring a commitment to professional development and expertise 
  • Proven success in executing strategic communication campaigns that have achieved organizational goals, supported by quantifiable metrics and outcomes 
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, HTML, and graphic design, thorough understanding of search engines and SEO 
  • Advanced knowledge in developing digital engagement strategies, including familiarity with new/emerging technologies and social media channels, to optimize message delivery and measurement 
  • Working knowledge of writing digital engagement strategies, including new/emerging technologies and social media channels to support message delivery and measurement 
  • Working knowledge of employee review sites and how to optimize engagement and brand management. 
  • Familiarity with Upbring or child welfare system
